Southern Streams Farmer Group
Southern Streams Farmers Group is made of 31 farmers and landowners, who look after over 10,000ha between Marlborough, Hungerford and Ludgershall.
The group aims to work together to accomplish landscape scale results, especially for vulnerable chalk streams in the River Kennet catchment. The group area also includes chalk downland and ancient woodland.
Priorities of the group are:
Protecting water quality, especially the chalk streams and winterbournes
Healthy soils for water storage, carbon capture and fertility
Enhancing and connecting biodiversity
Improving woodlands and hedgerow condition
Communicating their message with the local community
Successful projects have included wetland creation, regenerative soil monitoring, installing 100 nest boxes, hosting education visits and 280 disease-resistant elm trees.
